She hopes that her friends in Louisville can help her in finding a host family for a 15 year old girl for the coming summer. If you can help, please contact Corinne at the above eMail.     Je connais une famille tres serieuse qui souhaiterait envoyer leur fille de 15 ans aux USA cet ete. Cette jeune fille a deja fait un echange avec une jeune canadienne et voudrait soit renouveler l'experience avec un(e) jeune americain(e) dans le cadre d'un echange, soit etre recue dans une famille americaine, en payant pour les frais de sejour, afin d'etre 'immergee' et ameliorer ainsi son anglais. A mon avis, une jeune fille doit vite s'ennuyer si elle se retrouve seule avec des adultes. L'ideal serait de trouver une famille qui a au moins un adolescent parmis ses membres ou/et il faudrait lui trouver une occupation: elle peut tres bien faire du benevolat pour l'Alliance Française par exemple…

  • ANNUAL MEETING OF THE AFL MEMBERSHIP:  MAY 13
    The annual meeting of AFL will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 7:00 PM, in the conference room of Plainview Point 3. At this general meeting of the membership, new board members will be elected. The nominating committee presents the following slate of candidates to serve a two (2) year term: Becca Brodarick, Lee Cave, Julien Carrière, Jann Logsdon, Lynn Roberts, Aïda Touma, Jim Van de Ryt, and Ward Wilson.
    Additional nominations will be accepted from the floor provided that the nominee's written consent has been given to President Aïda Touma prior to the meeting. The candidates' bios were presented in AFL's April-May 2008 newsletter.

  • SUMMER SESSION AT AFL BEGINS NEXT MONDAY, MAY 5, 2008
    Take time out of your Derby festivities to register for a French or Arabic class at AFL! The 8 week summer session beganMonday, May 5. Details are here and are in the April-May newsletter. Please spread the word to your friends and colleagues that in addition to our usual array of French classes, we will offer a beginning course in Arabic. In a bit of a change, all classes (even the 100 level classes) will only meet once per week for two hours. Please let your friends know about our language classes and wonderful teachers!

  • HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR SCL - MONTPELLIER WORK EXCHANGE STUDENTS
    Dates: June 28 - July 26

    Host families are needed for the Montpellier Work Exchange program. This year, close to 15 students are expected. They will be arriving on June 28th and will be departing on July 26th. The students will once again be housed at the University Towers in furnished apartments. Please consider taking one of these students under your wing. Contact Elizabeth Kuhn if you would be interested and if you would like to have a particular age or gender student. A host family orientation will be scheduled for mid-May.   • HOST FAMILY NEEDED FOR 19 YEAR OLD FRENCH GIRL
    Bonnie Megenity Walker and Mary Ann Thomas are helping to place a 19-year-old French girl in an American home. She is looking for a family who would be interested in hosting this young woman, Maud Cabanel. Her goal is to improve her English by being totally immersed in everyday American living with a family. She is willing to provide financial assistance and help with family life. Bonnie can provide Maud's letter of intent, biography, and photos. For more info, contact Mary Ann Thomas at 812 288 9006.
